“I always tell myself ‘audience over author’ because that’s really what storytelling’s for.”

Hi, I’m Jonah, and I’m a Northeast Ohio-based screenwriter.

For a while, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life; all I knew was that I wanted to serve others in some way.

Eventually, I noticed how some movies’ stories affected the way I both thought about and approached life. Not only did movies allow me to escape reality for two hours at a time, but they also allowed me to reassess and reshape my views and lifestyle…

I realized I could serve others through stories.

ME (O.S.) (CONT’D)

My film-obsessed best friend MEGAN and I had conversed about film for a long time without really pursuing it. But one day, we decided no more, setting in motion how we would take the film world by storm, maybe… TBD.

I decided to head back to school to finish a bachelor’s degree in screenwriting, and Megan flew across the country to attend film school in San Diego.

Our semi-official production company, Rooftop Parking Productions, is at the ready once we’re out of school.

ME (O.S.)

Now, who am I as a writer?

Themes

My writing frequently delves into themes of grief, forgiveness, existential nihilism, and holism while taking on genres like black comedy, drama, and occasionally horror.

Experiences

I’ve been through a lot in life already… Each and every thing that has broken me down is a source for inspiration. The human experience is built on hardship, love, mistakes, absolutes, and various shades of grey, and I always try to write with these in mind.

Mission

While never writing explicitly about myself, I occasionally tie aspects of my life to characters and events within my stories, allowing for greater understood focus. I want to give my audiences a rich, elaborate world for them to escape to for a story. As I said before, the most important part of this process, to me, is “audience over author”.
